ROM is a permanent type of memory. ROM is a storage medium that is used with computers and other electronic devices. Its contents are not lost when power supply is switched off. The user cannot write into a ROM. Its contents are written into at manufacturing time. ROM stores permanent programs and other types of information which are needed by the computer to execute user programs. Mainly there are three types of ROM.
ROM एक स्थायी प्रकार का स्टोरेज मेमोरी है जो कंप्यूटर और अन्य इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरणों में उपयोग किया जाता है इसमें लिखा हुआ डेटा लाईट के जाने पर मिटता नहीं है। लाईट के चले जाने पर यूजर द्वारा डेटा रोम पर नहीं लिखा जा सकता है। इसका डेटा मैनुफैक्चरिंग के समय लिखा जाता है। रोम पर परमानेन्ट प्रोग्राम व अन्य प्रकार का इन्फार्मेशन को आवश्यकतानुसार लिख जाता है। मुख्य रूप से तीन प्रकार के रोम हैं-
PROM - Programmable Read Only Memory.
EPROM - Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory.
EPROM - Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory.
